Capcom VS Snk Groove Points

How the Groove point system works
The groove point system is how the game ranks you on your skill throughout the game. However those expecting something like in Street Fighter 3: third strike, then you are in for a shock. This game is very 'old school' so it follows the 2-in-1 and combo rules of SF2 mainly. Simple combos which work in alpha 3 will not earn you points it will probably lose you points!

The way to get points is to play 'omnipotent' so what does that mean? Well if dhalsim misses you with his extended limb, do a jab dragon punch [ken] and you will gain around 10 groove points [gps]. Basically the game works more on a keep-away style of combat rather than all out combos.

Certain combo's still work, but as the game has merged SNK and Capcom play styles the more common ones penalise you.

If you get super finishes you get lots of gps if the opponent is the same ratio or higher than you. If you managed to counter a super attack and thus finish off the opponent then you will get anything up to 30 gps. You will know when you do this, as a 3d sphere will explode behind you. Cross ups, and deep attacks also earn you points. However any rogue punches or kicks that come out not in any sequence that the game recognises, then you will lose points.

When your character is beaten you will lose gps, the amount will depend upon the ratio of character who has beaten you, and who had the more active match.

For a team of capcom characters play in capcom groove, and for a snk team play in snk groove. This is because the game seems to recognise you attacks better in the same character class groove. Personally I prefer the capcom 3 level meter, as it removes the opportunity to keep charging your super meter and using super moves throughout the game.

Using air attacks as counters to jumping enemies [guiles flash kick, ken's hurricane kick etc.] however air throws do not earn you many [sometimes none] gps. So when playing with Cammy be aware that all those air-throws will not earn you points.

In short there are many different ways that you can earn gps, and those that play SF3 will have little problem, those familar with alpha 3 will struggle as alpha 3 is very relaxed and relies more on super arts. Snk players will find getting gps fairly easy, the only problem they find is that the game plays more like Street Fighter than King Of Fighters, but hey with capcom doing it, you kind of expected that!
